  • This course is for everyone. From people with a lot of experience in the water to those with almost none, this course is an important introduction to the silent world of freediving in the tranquil waters of Shellharbour and is the ideal platform to nurture your passion for the underwater world.
  • Join us to unlock the wonders of the ocean’s depths and discover the harmony between mind and water that freediving brings.
  • We also use techniques and insights from yoga, meditation and other holistic practices as we approach freediving as an exploration of the mind/body connection. What you learn on the course is useful even if you never saw the ocean again

What to expect

 

  • Gain a globally-recognised advanced certification with PADI (equivalent of Molchanovs Wave 1)
  • In a group of up to 4 people, you will gain the knowledge and skills to:
    • Hold your breath for up to 3 minutes
    • Freedive up to 16 metres deep with the right equalisation techniques
    • Keep yourself and your buddies safe in the water (rescues and safety skills)
    • Understand the science behind freediving
    • Use breathing and mental techniques to find calm
  • We use tools from yoga, meditation, breathwork and cold exposure as we approach freediving as an exploration of the mind/body connection. What you learn on the course is useful even if you never saw the ocean again

Once you paid the deposit, you will receive a confirmation email with all the next steps.

Complete PADI e-learning

Within 48hr of your booking, you will receive a link from PADI to complete your e-learning materials before your course. It takes about 2 hours on average.

Attend your course

Join us for 2 days together in Shellharbour, getting immersed in the world of freediving.

Receive your PADI certification

Provided you pass all PADI course requirements, we will send your certification e-card. If you don’t pass, don’t worry you can come back free of charge anytime to complete your requirements with us.

Timing and logistics

 

PADI Freediver Course, Shellharbour (2 Days)

DAY 1 

730am – approx 2 pm

  • 730 am – Meet Jimmy and course mates at the location/time shown on your confirmation email
  • 8-11am – Classroom Session to recap your e-learning, talk freediving science, and practice some breathwork and relaxation techniques
  • 11-1pm – Pool Session to learn Breath-hold and Freediving techniques in confined water 
  • 1-2pm BYO Lunch with the group

DAY 2 

730am – approx 2.30pm

  • 730am – Meet at the location advised the day before (Usually one of the following depending on the conditions Shellharbour village, Shellharbour Marina, Bushrangers Bay)
  • 830am-1130am – Line Dive Sessions, other skills (Underwater rescue, finning technique, duck dive,…) 
  • 1230pm-130pm –BYO  Lunch
  • 130-230pm Ice bath + intro to breathwork

Are there any prerequisites to join a freediving course?
  • Freediving is an activity for anyone to explore. From land lovers to ocean enthusiasts, we will teach you the skills to help you build your confidence in the ocean and Freediving.
  • There are some requirements to help keep you safe in the water:
    • Our minimum age is 12
    • You must be able to swim 200m 
    • There's a medical form to complete before the course begins to check any serious pre-existing conditions. If you do have any conditions, we will ask you to get permission from your doctor before freediving

Is Freediving safe?

Yes, when practiced with proper techniques and precautions, freediving is a safe sport. Our courses prioritize safety by teaching you essential protocols, proper techniques, and ensuring all training sessions are supervised by experienced instructors.

What courses do you offer?

We offer a range of courses from beginner to advanced levels, including:

    • PADI Beginner Freediving - for anyone who wants to get a taste 
    • PADI Advanced Freediving - for certified freedivers who want to go to the next level with more advanced techniques and coaching
    • Specialized Workshops (e.g., Breathwork events, cold exposure, social dives…)
Does the course have requirements?
  • We generally like to keep the focus for level 1 courses away from the requirements. We believe with the correct guidance our students can meet them with flying colours. However, for those interested, below are the PADI requirements
  • Pool Requirements 
    • Static (holding your breath face down in the pool) 1m30sec.
    • Dynamic (swimming distance underwater in the pool with fins) 25m 
  • Depth Requirements 
    • Free Immersion (using your arms only to pull yourself down the dive line) to a minimum depth of 10m and a maximum depth of 20m
    • Constant Weight (Using your fins only and kicking down the dive line) to a minimum depth of 10m and a maximum depth of 20m
    • Rescue Simulation (Practice what it is like to rescue a diver from a shallow water blackout) 10m
What gear will I need?

  • We provide all this equipment free of charge as part of our PADI certified courses and retreats; and on hire for social dives/ depth days.
Is the freediving equipment included?

Yes, we are the only school providing quality all gear hire free of charge, incl. high quality wetsuit (5mm, open cell to keep you nice and warm)

How should I prepare before the course?
  • We will send you forms and access to the PADI online system before the course. This e-learning needs to be completed before the weekend.
  • On the day: Eat a light breakfast and come with an open-mind and positive spirit ! 
Do you offer group/ private training or team building experiences?
  • We offer private training, experiences and full certification courses for up to 8 people and can even tailor the event to your needs.

I've never been able to equalise my ears properly and feel pain when trying to descend underwater, can I still do a freediving course?

Yes, you can still participate in a freediving course. Difficulty with equalizing is a common concern, especially for beginners. Our courses include comprehensive instruction on various equalization techniques to help you overcome this issue. Our experienced instructors will work with you individually to ensure you learn how to equalize properly and comfortably, allowing you to enjoy your freediving experience without pain.

What happens if I would like to reschedule my course?

We just need a minimum of 14 days’ notice to change a course free of charge. If a client would like to reschedule their course date within the final week there is a $150 re-booking fee. By the final week, we have already arranged logistics and paid for online learning materials.

What is your cancellation policy?
  • The $150 deposit is non refundable
  • You can reschedule free of charge with up to 14 days notice, beyond that there is a $150 re-booking fee.
